Ahead of the F1 Academy season opener, that will get underway in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 7-9 March, Lia Block is due to begin her single seater career when she climbs into the GRS run car for the Formula Winter Series in Jerez this weekend. Many of the top junior drivers are joining winter series as preparation for their upcoming campaigns. Block will use this time to further build on her experience and seat time as she joins the first three rounds of the series. Lia had this to say ahead of the competion,
It’s great to be working with the GRS team and I’m very happy to be racing with them for the first three race weekends of the Formula Winter Series. It will be my first race in a formula car and I am looking forward to learning as much as possible to prepare for the upcoming F1 Academy season.
The 2024 Academy campaign will visit 7 different venues across 3 continents, each supporting the Formula 1 World Championship and concluding with the season finale in Abu Dhabi in December. Last year she won the American Rally Association O2WD National Championship and was the youngest driver ever to win the title. Not only that she also competed across a wide variety of racing disciplines, including rally, rallycross and the all-electric off road series Extreme E, where she joined Carl Cox Motorsport from the Island X Prix in July, securing her first top-five finish.
Block will be supported by Jaime Chadwick as Mentor throughout the F1 Academy season and, together with teammates Bianca Bustamante and Belgian Douwe Dedecker, the former also being her Academy team mate.
